A man says his hero arc turned awkward after his date didn’t appreciate his attempt to “save her life” during a movie date. Viewers weigh in on what really went wrong.
In a video with over 2.5 million views, TikToker Sammy (@sammyfilming) walks outside after a date with a “woman named Reba.” He says they had instant chemistry, and she was “lovely.”
Just a short time into their date, Reba reveals that she has narcolepsy, a condition that can make her fall asleep suddenly and unexpectedly. She asks him to nudge her if she falls asleep during the movie.
“I’m like, ‘Reba, no problem, girl,'” he recounts. “This is the start of something special between you and me.”
Why did he have to ‘save her life’ during the date?
During the movie, he notices that Reba appears to have fallen asleep. So, he gives her a quick nudge with his elbow to wake her up.
“She wakes up and immediately starts choking violently,” he says. “I was so panicked I got up and started screaming, ‘Reba! Reba! Spit it out, girl!'”
He says he then decided to perform the Heimlich maneuver to dislodge the object from her throat.
“I pull on her diaphragm and out pops a popcorn kernel,” he says. “Reba had fallen asleep with a popcorn kernel in her mouth.”
After the choking incident, Sammy says they finished the movie. However, what she tells him when they exit the theater shocks him.
“She told me she didn’t think it was going to work. After I just saved your life,” he laments. “And let her put three pumps of butter on the popcorn when I asked for one.”

Sammy frequently shares outrageous dating stories on his TikTok page, which leads some viewers to speculate that the stories are satire. However, others suggest that he may have ultimately given his date the ick by screaming in the theater as he tried to save her life.
