Save Soil: 5,000 kids write to PM Narendra Modi in Mysuru

MYSURU: Over five thousand students from Mysuru district and 79,000 students from across the state wrote to the Prime Minister as part of the Save Soil campaign launched by Sadhguru.

Kids studying from pre-kindergarten to class X participated in this letter writing initiative addressed to the PM. Sadhguru showed these letters to the PM in Delhi recently. The drive concluded in the city on June 3.

Students from 62 schools from various parts of the district participated in this drive in which they highlighted the importance of conserving soil. Many wrote small poems and awareness messages, drew paintings and made videos based on scientific facts on the importance of soil conservation, how soil can be conserved for the next generations, etc.

According to the volunteers, they started reaching out to schools in Mysuru in March. “As exams were going on, we couldn’t collect many letters to the PM in March. But once schools reopened in May, the response was phenomenal. Children expressed themselves through drawings, paintings, crafts, poems, letters, video sharing, and dance,” said a volunteer.

The drive was held between March 25 and 31. It started again from May 16 and concluded on June 3. Students expressed their thoughts both in Kannada and English.

According to Smruthi, a Save Soil volunteer and yoga teacher, they conducted 45 minutes sessions in schools for students.

“It was the creativity of the students that unfolded in this letter writing. They knew about soil’s importance and how we need to take care of it. The response from the children was wonderful. They felt they were responsible and wanted to contribute to the movement in whichever way they could. This was fulfilling for us,” she said.

In Mysuru, nine volunteers were involved in conducting sessions while 10 more volunteers were involved in uploading these letters on the website which was presented to the Prime Minister.

Sadhguru to visit Mysuru on June 20

According to the volunteers, all these 5,000+ letters will be displayed at Manasagangotri open-air theatre on June 20 during Sadhguru’s event in the city.
