Saudi company in running to become new Newcastle United sponsor as bidding process continues

Newcastle United remain in talks with several potential sponsors for the 2023/24 season as the club prepare to say goodbye to Fun 88.

United are in advanced discussions with Sela, a Saudi events company, to become the club's new sponsors but they are not alone. Chronicle Live understands that there is also interest from firms in Kuwait and the USA.

Newcastle are trying to get a deal done before the new kit is released in June with Castore set to unveil kits that should be a hit with supporters. United are still locked in a deal until 2026 with Castore but have a good relationship with the sports manufacturers.

United's progression to the Champions League has also heated up the battle to become the club's new sponsors. As reported by Chronicle Live on May 2, there is more than one bidder in the mix to be Newcastle's sponsorship and it is a far cry from the previous regime's journey to China in order to drum up interest during the Mike Ashley era.

The next deal could be worth more than £25million a season and will be the biggest in club history. Sela were founded in 1985 and manage events attended by more than £15m people. Sela have extensive links to the Saudi national team and organised the annual Race of Champions.

FUN888's final game as the club's sponsor will be against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Sunday. Ahead of that trip to the capital on the last day of the campaign, the betting partner took out a full page advert in the inside of Newcastle's match day programme.

"As the season draws to a pulsating finale, we wanted to extend our best wishes to you, the heartbeat of this great institution, the Newcastle United fans," it read. "It's been the most thrilling campaign since our partnership began and we've loved being on the terraces with you every week just as much as we enjoy our interactions with you on social media every day.

"Our relationship with you and your great club is something we all treasure immensely. With just two games remaining and so much to play for, there's really only one thing left to say: Howay the lads!"
