Saudi Citizen Dies, Another in Stable Condition after New Zealand Mosque Massacre

Saudi Foreign Minister Ibrahim al-Assaf

Saudi Foreign Minister Ibrahim al-Assaf has confirmed that one of two Saudi citizens wounded in the shootings on two mosques in New Zealand succumbed to his injuries on Friday night.

He said the Foreign Ministry is in continuous coordination with the Saudi Embassy in New Zealand after the massacre.

The mission said on Twitter on Saturday that another Saudi national, who was injured in the mosque shootings in Christchurch, was in stable condition after undergoing surgery.

Embassy staff visited Aseel Ansari in hospital, it said, adding that he is expected to be discharged on Sunday.

According to Al-Arabiya satellite news channel, 19-year-old Ansari was struck in the knee by a rifle round.

Revulsion at the massacre, which has left scores of people dead and injured, and tributes to the victims have poured in from around the world.

The assailant, Australia-born 28-year-old Brenton Tarrant was on Saturday charged with murder.
