
Saudi Arabia stressed on Monday the need to preserve Syria’s independence and territorial integrity as Arab League and European powers met in Brussels to discuss the Middle East.
Saudi State Minister for Foreign Affairs Adel al-Jubeir said inter-Arab consultations were ongoing to reach a conclusion that would safeguard Syria’s independence and expel foreign forces operating there.
He also underlined the need to implement United Nations Security Council resolution 2254 on Syria.
Moreover, Jubeir highlighted the significance of Arab-European ties, noting opportunities of cooperation between them.
The minister held talks on the sidelines of the Brussels meeting with British Minister of State for the Middle East and North Africa Alistair Burt and ministers of foreign affairs of Spain Josep Borrell, of Malta Carmelo Abela and of Poland Jacek Czaputowiczof.
The gatherers in Brussels were preparing for an Arab League summit in the Egyptian city of Sharm el-Sheikh on February 24-25.
