Saudi Arabia Secures Permanent Seat in ICAO Council

Saudi Arabia has won permanent membership in the Council of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), reported the Saudi Press Agency Saturday.

It joins the council with the other 36 permanent member states.

Minister of Transport and Chairman of the General Authority of Civil Aviation Dr. Nabil bin Mohamed Al-Amoudi said that the Kingdom’s victory reflects the acknowledgment of the ICAO member states of its positive role and efforts in the air transport industry.

Saudi Arabia has been winning a seat successively since 1986 in elections that are held every three years.

Amoudi pointed out that these wins clearly reflect the prestigious international status enjoyed by the Kingdom in international civil aviation forums, especially the ICAO.
