Saudi Arabia fans troll Lionel Messi with Cristiano Ronaldo celebration after Argentina World Cup loss

Saudi Arabia fans used Manchester United forward Cristiano Ronaldo's iconic 'siu' celebration to poke fun at Lionel Messi's Argentina following their stunning 2-1 win on Tuesday.

Messi opened the scoring from the penalty spot for his South American side in the 10th minute, and after Argentina had three further goals ruled out for offside, the match only seemed to be heading in one direction. However, Saudi Arabia produced an inspired second-half performance to flip the game on its head, as they came from behind to pull off a historic World Cup upset against of one the pre-tournament favourites.

Saleh Al Shehri levelled the scores just three minutes after the break, as he found the bottom corner past Aston Villa's Emi Martinez. The former Arsenal goalkeeper would be beaten once again just five minutes later, as Salem Al Dawsari rifled his shot into the top corner in the 53rd minute, despite the Argentine shot-stopper getting a hand to the ball.

What followed was a heroic series of defending from the Green Falcons, as they withstood a barrage of pressure from Argentina to claim a vital three points, and in doing so becoming the first team outside of Europe to beat their South American opposition since 1990.

Lisandro Martinez was the only United player involved during the match, yet the centre-back will take some personal comfort knowing that he was introduced just before the hour-mark, after his nation had already conceded both goals.

Messi's team will have to pick themselves up and dust themselves off ahead of their next match against Mexico, but the Paris Saint-Germain ace faced his own individual humiliation after the full-time whistle was blown.

Saudi Arabia fans took the opportunity to poke fun at the former Barcelona star, as they used his fierce rivalry with Ronaldo to rub salt in the wounds. Outside the stadium, supporters were seen copying the Portugal international's 'siu' celebration, as they relished in their country's role for what is possibly the biggest shock in World Cup history.
