Brave Sarah Harding quietly disappeared from the spotlight amid secret cancer fight

Girls Aloud star Sarah Harding disappeared from the spotlight and went into hiding amid her secret battle with cancer.

The pop star, 38, went public with her health crisis today - confirming she's been diagnosed with breast cancer and is undergoing chemotherapy.

Mirror Online revealed last year that Sarah had taken the decision to step away from fame - quitting social media and taking her website offline.

She hasn't been seen out in public in more than two years.

Sarah's last post on social media was in August 2018 before she returned to Instagram and Twitter today to share her heartbreaking cancer news.

Her last public appearance was back in March, 2018 when she attended the National Film Awards in London.

In a poignant post today, Sarah revealed she was diagnosed with breast cancer at the start of the year but the disease has since spread throughout her body.

She wrote: "I’ve not posted on here for so long, thank you to everyone who has reached out to check in on me, it really does mean a lot.

"I feel now is the right time to share what’s been going on. There’s no easy way to say this and actually it doesn’t even feel real writing this, but here goes.

"Earlier this year I was diagnosed with breast cancer and a couple of weeks ago I received the devastating news that the cancer has advanced to other parts of my body.

"I’m currently undergoing weekly chemotherapy sessions and I am fighting as hard as I possibly can."

She went on to thank her family and friends and the doctors and nurses who have been looking after her.

Sarah added that she's trying to stay positive despite going through such a difficult time.

She's been swamped with support from her loyal fans, as well as her former bandmates Cheryl.

The singer broke her three-month social media silence to send her support to Sarah, posting a broken heart emoji on Twitter.
