Sarah Everard missing: Women living in local area warned to 'not go out alone'

Women living in the area where Sarah Everard disappeared from are being warned by police to "not go out alone".

The marketing manager, 33, vanished after she left a friend's house in Clapham, south London on March 3.

She had been due to arrive home in Brixton roughly 50 minutes later after making the journey on foot but has not been seen since.

Police have launched a missing persons probe and have been scouring the local area in recent days, including ponds and bins.

And locals have now revealed that officers have told them to be vigilant following the mystery disappearance.

One woman said officers knocked on her door last night and warned her "not to go out alone" as the inquiry continues.

Another woman, aged in her 30s, told The Sun today: “I was told to be more careful because I live on my own.

"The police came round yesterday and said to be careful. I don’t want to leave the house at the moment. You don’t know what happened.

"It makes me very worried. I just can’t believe it."

The Metropolitan Police said they are keeping an "open mind as to the circumstances" of Sarah's disappearance tonight.

DCI Katherine Goodwin said: "I want to remain clear that at this time we have no information to suggest that Sarah has come to any harm."

And detectives are now appealing for any delivery drivers or people with dashcam footage to come forward.

Sarah, a resident of London for 12 years, left her friend's house on Leathwaite Road at around 9pm last Wednesday, police say.

She exited through a back gate, which took her onto the A205 South Circular, before heading in the direction of Brixton.

It is thought that Sarah, originally from York, walked across Clapham Common, a 220-acre urban park.

She was then seen on CCTV walking alone on the A205 Poynders Road, from the junction with Cavendish Road, in the direction of Tulse Hill, at around 9:30pm.

Images show Sarah on her phone, although it is not clear who she was talking to.

The Met said the investigation continues to be treated as a missing person enquiry but "due to its complex nature and concerns for Sarah's welfare", is now being led by Specialist Crime Command.

Anyone with information that may assist the investigation or who has seen Sarah should call the Incident Room on 0208 785 8244.

Information can also be provided to detectives using the Major Incident Portal or by calling Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
