Saracens confident Owen Farrell won't repeat unwanted record after wasteful display against Bristol

Saracens have no doubts that Owen Farrell will not suffer any repeat of his record six missed shots at goal in the Premiership win over Bristol.

Farrell landed just two of eight strikes at goal at the StoneX Stadium, but Saracens simply ran in seven tries instead, to sink Bristol 39-31

The north Londoners moved second in the Premiership table with their fifth win in succession, while Bristol lost their fifth match on the spin in comparison.

Neither rugby director Mark McCall nor England and Saracens team-mate Elliot Daly have any qualms over Farrell’s off day with the boot however.

“It was one of those days for him wasn’t it?” said McCall.

“But I don’t think we’ll see that again.

“Owen was at the heart of our turnaround in the second-half to be honest.

“And we were much more physical, much more energetic as a team after the break.

“I thought we were flat in a number of things early on, even when that was happening.

“I don’t the reason why right now, but three tries to one up, it didn’t feel like we were on top of things or as energetic as we had been the week before.

“But I give the boys a lot of credit for doing something about it in the second-half.”

Daly insisted no one at Saracens will give even a second’s thought to the 13 points Farrell spurned with the boot.

Instead, they will simply back their captain at club and country to return to the highest levels at the next opportunity.

Asked if he would ever suggest taking over kicking duties, long-range specialist Daly chuckled before replying: “No, absolutely not.

“He’s one of the best kickers in the world, he will know what he needs to fix.

“You have those days, obviously he wants to get every single kick he takes.

“We have these days, and that’s it really, we just move on.

“We don’t really think about it, he will get it right for the next game.”
