Santa Clara transfer Trey Wertz includes Ohio State in final seven schools

The Ohio State basketball team appears to be in the running for another transfer. Santa Clara guard Trey Wertz recently included the Buckeyes in a more expanded list, but now has them in his final seven schools as he continues to cull the list down.

With the Broncos, the 6-foot, 4-inch guard averaged 11.9 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 3.9 assists per contest in 2019-2020. He shot 48.9 percent from the floor overall and averaged 28.6 minutes per game. He also bombed away from beyond the arc at a clip of 40 percent.

There has always been the question of whether OSU would have a scholarship for any more players immediately, but with the recent news of Kaleb Wesson declaring for the NBA draft, it appears as though a scholarship may be available now, even with Wertz having to sit out a year because of the NCAA’s undergraduate transfer rules.

There does not appear to be a firm timetable for a decision from Wertz, but he does seem to be going through the process rather quickly. We’ll stay on top of any further news that becomes available.

The other six teams Wertz included in his final seven include North Carolina, Notre Dame, Virginia, Arizona, Oklahoma, and Butler.
