San Diego's short-lived Fourth of July celebration (#BigBayBoom)

San Diego's Big Bay Boom is usually one of the biggest 4 July fireworks shows in the nation. But because of a technical error, Wednesday night's event blew out in about 15 seconds.

The firm that produced the show apologized for its brevity – it was meant to last 18 minutes – and said that the mysterious glitch happened despite earlier testing. The Port of San Diego also released this apologetic tweet:

"The Garden State Fireworks team will be working throughout the night to determine what technical problem caused the entire show to be launched in about 15 seconds," according to the statement posted on BigBayBoom.com Wednesday evening.

The event usually draws around 500,000 eager viewers, who this year were all forced to turn back around. And now, a selection of their funny tweets and pretty pictures. Sorry in advance for the schadenfreude, San Diego:
