Samsung Rolls Out New On-Device AI Privacy Protections

Samsung has announced a big security and privacy update for its Galaxy smartphones. The company has introduced stronger on-device protections, smarter threat detection, and future-ready encryption. The update will roll out with One UI 8.

The main highlight of this update is the new Knox Enhanced Encrypted Protection (KEEP). This creates isolated storage environments for each app inside the device’s secure area, limiting access strictly to that app’s own sensitive data. The goal is to safeguard AI-driven features like Smart Gallery search and Now Brief, which rely on personal data to work well, without sending that data to the cloud.

Samsung’s Personal Data Engine (PDE), which powers personalized AI features, is also protected under this system. All insights stay on-device, supported by Knox Vault, Samsung’s tamper-resistant hardware layer. According to Samsung, KEEP is designed to scale with more Galaxy AI features going forward.

Along with the KEEP, the South Korean conglomerate is upgrading its Knox Matrix system to improve cross-device threat detection. If a serious risk, like identity forgery or system tampering, is detected on a device, it will automatically sign out of the Samsung Account. This limits the threat’s ability to spread to other connected devices. It also alerts you to review the issue through a new ‘Security status of your devices’ page.

Furthermore, the company is also improving Wi-Fi with post-quantum cryptography, which was first introduced in the Galaxy S25 series. This upgrade aims to protect encrypted data from future attacks that use quantum computing to crack today’s encryption methods. The updated Secure Wi-Fi now safeguards the key exchange process at the core of encrypted connections, especially important when using public networks. Apart from that, the Secure Wi-Fi includes:

  • Auto Protect: Automatically activates in public locations like airports or cafes.
  • Enhanced Privacy Protection (EPP): Encrypts and anonymizes internet traffic to prevent tracking.
  • Protection Activity: Allows you to review which apps and networks were protected and how much data was secured.

The One UI 8 update will gradually roll out to supported Galaxy devices in the coming months.
