Samsung's new Galaxy Z Flip 8 has arrived, and it's a refinement of last year's Galaxy Z Flip 7. That means it features a similar design, but Samsung has refined it in ways consumers should note. That includes a new chipset, a new type of battery, and upgraded software features with Samsung's latest One UI 9.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 8: Price and release date
Samsung unveiled the Galaxy Z Flip 8 during its summer Unpacked event on July 22, 2026. The phone was launched alongside the new Galaxy Z Fold 8 series and new Galaxy Watch models.
Pricing for the device starts at $1,199 for the 12GB/256GB model, which is $100 more than its predecessor. The price increase is likely the result of rising component costs due to the RAM crisis.
Preorders for the Galaxy Z Flip 8 begin on July 22 and can be ordered through Samsung.com and Samsung stores, retailers such as Amazon and Best Buy, and carriers such as T-Mobile, Verizon, and more. The phone's release date is August 7.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 8: Design and displays
Samsung is known to utilize smartphone designs over multiple years. Since the company just introduced a fresh design for the Galaxy Z Flip 7, we didn't expect anything drastic for 2026. Galaxy Z Flip 8 looks identical to last year's Flip, save for some minor cosmetic changes such as new colors and slightly different dimensions.
In fact, Samsung managed to make the phone thinner than last year's Flip, which was already very thin for a flip phone. This should help make it more pocketable.
Samsung also introduced an array of new colors, including pink and a very compelling Mint option, which is only available at Samsung.
Meanwhile, the displays are pretty much identical as well. The Galaxy Z Flip 8 retains the 6.9-inch primary folding display and external 4.1-inch panel. The display also has a pretty minimal crease, carried over from last year's model, but it notably does not feature the same Titanium Flex display found in the Fold 8 series.
Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 8: Hardware
The Galaxy Z Flip 7 was a notable departure for Samsung, arriving with the Exynos 2500 instead of the Snapdragon chip powering the rest of the company's flagship phones. Although no explanation was provided, it's likely due to cost and efficiency considerations, given the nature of flip phones.
This year, Samsung returned to Snapdragon, with the Flip 8 boasting the premium Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy.
The Snapdragon chip is paired with 12GB of RAM to power Samsung's Galaxy AI features, and buyers can choose between 256GB and 512GB of storage.
Curiously, there was no battery increase in this year's model. Instead, Samsung kept the battery capacity the same and changed the battery itself. For the first time, Samsung is adopting silicon-carbon batteries in its phones, which is how the company was able to make the phone thinner than last year's model.
Charging remains unchanged at 25W wired and 15W wireless, with support for Qi2 and reverse wireless charging. There are no built-in Qi2 magnets.
Camera resolutions also remain the same, with a 50MP primary sensor, a 12MP ultrawide, and a 10MP selfie camera. That said, Samsung has upgraded the imaging with its ProVisual engine, meaning selfies should look better and the camera should deliver improved bokeh effects and enhanced colors and skin tone.
Users can also use new dual-capture features and Super Steady mode with Horizontal Lock.
Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 8: Software
The Galaxy Z Flip 8 runs One UI 9 based on Android 17. Visually, there's not much difference from One UI 8, but Samsung is introducing new features and capabilities with the update. First and foremost, Gemini Intelligence will bring more automation capabilities for the phone, so you can do things like book a rental through Expedia.
Now Nudge also brings enhanced recommendations, not just in the Samsung Keyboard but also in Notifications and places like Google Messages, so you can have a more intuitive experience when the situation calls for it.
There's also a new Gemini Notebook, which can take multiple sources of information, such as photos, recordings, and documents, and turn them into infographics, flash cards, audio, or video summaries, and more.
The cover screen has also been completely revamped, with a UI that matches the main software experience. The home screen is now a Now Brief hub that surfaces important information and recommendations, and you can generate new cards based on your interests.
Apps are now accessible by swiping up from the bottom, and there are 16 officially supported apps, with additional apps available via the MultiStar module in Good Lock.
Finally, Samsung updated the Health app to include more insights and support new features available in the Galaxy Watch 9 and Watch Ultra 2.
