When foldable phones first took off, there was no doubt that Samsung was the undisputed leader. However, as time has gone on, the competition for the best foldable phone has picked up considerably. That's where the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 comes in, and the new release has a lot riding on its shoulders.
And with Samsung's July 9 date for its next Galaxy Unpacked event practically here, we should soon find out what exactly the Galaxy Z Flip 7 brings to the table. Samsung's launch event is all but guaranteed to show off new foldable phones, and a follow-up to the Galaxy Z Flip 6 figures to be in the spotlight.

Galaxy Z Flip 7: Release date and price speculation

Samsung typically shows off new foldables in the second half of the year, and that tradition's continuing in 2025. The Galaxy Unpacked July 2025 event takes place tomorrow (July 9) at 10 a.m. ET / 7 a.m. PT / 3 p.m. BST, and while Samsung hasn't confirmed the specific products it's launching, invitations have included a lot of foldable phone imagery. We take that to mean the Galaxy Z Flip 7 is joining the Galaxy Z Fold 7 at the launch event.

Price is hard to determine right now, especially given the impact that the Trump administration's tariff policy might have on electronics. The Galaxy Z Flip 6 got a $100 price hike to $1,099. It's hard to say whether another price hike happens or if Samsung maintains that $1,099 cost for the Galaxy Z Flip 7, but European pricing appears to suggest a price drop while increasing the storage capacity. Specifically, the rumor claims the Galaxy Z Flip 7 will cost €100 less than its predecessor, which certainly is more appealing than a competing rumor that the starting price would go up by €100.
As we've said, Samsung hasn't confirmed what it's launching on July 9, but whatever it is, you can get $50 off by registering your interest on the Samsung Store site.
Galaxy Z Flip FE: A cheaper model?

With the Galaxy Z Flip 6 costing more than $1,000, there's been calls for Samsung to release a cheaper version of its flip phone. And the phone maker might heed the call based on rumors of a Galaxy Z Flip FE model.
As with Samsung's other FE phones — think the Galaxy S24 FE — this would be a lower-cost version of the Flip that sacrifices on some key areas to keep the price more manageable. In the case of the Galaxy Z Flip FE, that would mean a thicker design than the regular Galaxy Z Flip and possibly a lower-powered chipset.
How likely is it that we'll see a Galaxy Z Flip FE any time soon? It's hard to say, but there are leaked renders of the phone, suggesting Samsung is at least considering such a model. There's been a leaked Galaxy Z Flip FE case, too, suggesting a phone is coming sooner rather than later.
What's more, Motorola announced a trio of new flip phones earlier this year, and two — the Motorola Razr Plus 2025($999) and Motorola Razr 2025 ($699) — cost less than the Galaxy Z Flip 6.
Initial reports suggested the Galaxy Z Flip FE would arrive "months" after the Galaxy Z Flip 7 update, but with the Z Flip FE appearing in the same marketing material leaks that have tipped off so much about Samsung's other foldables, it's seeming increasingly likely that the Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7 could have some company at Unpacked.

Galaxy Z Flip 7: Design and Display

We have a good idea of how big the Galaxy Z Flip 7 will be thanks to display analyst Ross Young. Supposedly, the main screen will go from 6.7 to 6.85 inches, while the cover display will increase to 4 inches. That's a fairly substantial jump from the 3.4-inch panel on the outside of the Galaxy Z Flip 6.
For what it's worth, leaked specs posted by well-regarded leaker Roland Quandt just ahead of Unpacked, indicate that the screen sizes on the Galaxy Z Flip 7 will actually by 6.9 inches and 4.1 inches, respectively.
Case image leaks certainly seem to back the idea that the Galaxy Z Flip 7 will have a much larger cover display. The cases shown off in the image leave a lot more room for that outer display.
And now notable leaker Evan Blass is weighing in with likely Galaxy Z Flip 7 renders that seem to reflect those likely design changes.

The big question surrounding any Samsung foldable is how prominent a crease will be visible on the main display where the phone folds in half. Recent Galaxy Flips have done a better job at making that crease less visible, and at MWC 2025, Samsung's display unit showed off a creaseless panel on a foldable phone. Though the display is ready for production, it's not expected to be featured on any of Samsung's foldables this year.
The new model could be a bit thinner than last year's version, though the Galaxy Z Fold 7 is getting a more radically thin design. Nevertheless, leaked marketing materials claim that the Galaxy Z Flip 7 will be 6.5mm thin when unfolded, compared to 6.9mm for its predecessor.
In terms of colors, an early WinFuture report says Galaxy Z Flip 7 customers will be able to choose from black, blue and "coral red." Quandt is now predicting those colors will be blue, silver and black.
Galaxy Z Flip 7: Cameras
Another rumor has some bad news about the possible cameras coming with the device. According to one report, the Galaxy Z Flip 7 could feature the same cameras seen on the Z Flip 6. That would mean that the phone will come with a 50MP main camera, a 12MP ultrawide camera and a 12MP selfie camera.
Hopefully, Samsung will offer some photo processing upgrades or make some other changes that improve upon last year's camera performance. That said, the Galaxy Z Flip 6 is one of the best camera phones when it comes to foldables so it's not like Samsung is under fire to make major changes.
Galaxy Z Flip 7: Specs and features

It would make sense for us to expect the Galaxy Z Flip 7 to come with the same Snapdragon 8 Elite chip as the recent Galaxy S25 series. However, one report indicates that Samsung plans to release the Galaxy Z Flip 7 with an Exynos 2500 chip instead.
The Exynos 2500, recently launched by Samsung, is the company's equivalent flagship chipset. Normally this chip debuts in the Galaxy S model of a given year, but for some reason Samsung has launched it a fair bit later this year.
It would certainly make sense for Samsung to use Qualcomm's chip in its foldable, as the Snapdragon 8 Elite powers the new Motorola Razr Ultra 2025. Exynos chips tend not to equal the performance of the best Snapdragon silicon, so an Exynos 2500-powered Flip would be at a potential disadvantage when pitted against Motorola's phone.
It sounds like U.S. shoppers needn't worry, as a report out of Korea claims Galaxy Z Flip 7 models shipping in the U.S. will use the Snapdragon 8 Elite. Elsewhere, Samsung will reportedly turn to the Exynos 2500. That's not an unprecedented policy — Samsung did something similar with the Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S24 Plus last year.
It doesn't look like there will be changes to the RAM or storage, if one rumor proves accurate. According to the leaker @PandaFlashPro, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 will have 12GB of RAM and either 256GB or 512GB of storage, matching the Galaxy Z Flip 6's specs. A known leaker who posts at X under the moniker of Arsene Lupin claims there will also be an 8GB/256GB model to go with the 12GB versions of the Galaxy Z Flip 7.
Samsung could try to squeeze in a bigger battery for this year's model. Dutch site Galaxy Club reports that Samsung will turn to a 4,300 mAh power pack, a slight improvement on the Galaxy Z Flip 6's 4,000 mAh cell. That's seemingly confirmed by leaked images that reveal the UL Demko certifications, given by Denmark's national electronics certification bod.
Galaxy Z Flip 7: Software

Android 16 just launched, and is rolling out to Google Pixel phones at present. Samsung is expected to bring the new software to its phones later in the summer, and it's already launched a One UI 8 beta for Galaxy S25 models.
That's relevant to the Galaxy Z Flip 7, as the timing may work out to where Samsung's foldables launch with Android 16 and One UI 8 pre-installed.
Galaxy Z Flip 7: Outlook
At a glance, it looks like the Galaxy Z Flip 7 might struggle to make waves in the foldable market. Other than larger displays and a new chipset, we have not heard about any major changes to the new foldable.
And the competition is pretty strong now, especially with those new Motorola Razr models now available. If Samsung wants to remain one of the best foldable phone makers, then it needs to really find something to show off the new Z Flip 7.
