Sam Greenwood responds to U21s red card as Leeds United suspension fate detailed

Leeds United forward Sam Greenwood has said he has learnt a lesson after being sent off against Tranmere Rovers in the Under-21s 5-3 win in the Papa John's Trophy.

The 20-year-old was shown a red card after a foul in the middle of the pitch on the 70 minute mark with the score at 5-3 but the Whites managed to hold on to their two-goal cushion and take all three points.

Leeds went 2-0 down after 19 minutes but completed a 12-minute turnaround after goals from Joe Gelhardt and Sonny Perkins before an equaliser for Tranmere on the stroke of halftime.

Mateo Joseph regained the lead after 56 minutes with a nice effort before right-back Cody Drameh put the ball past Tranmere goalkeeper Mateusz Hewelt to secure the win.

Posting to Instagram after the match, Greenwood said:

"Good performance and win. We keep pushing @leedsunited Also one to learn from for me!"

Luckily for first-team boss Jesse Marsch, Greenwood's suspension will not carry over to other competitions, meaning he's available to play for the first-team this weekend and will instead serve a suspension against Bolton Wanderers on Tuesday, October 18. That will be a boost to Marsch, who is missing Luis Sinisterra for this weekend's visit to Crystal Palace after the winger saw red for two bookable offences against Aston Villa on Sunday.
