
The NFL announced a new salary cap for 2024 of $255.4 million. It was an increase of more than $30 million from the 2023 cap and more than $10 million higher than originally expected.
With the new salary cap, it impacts the cost of franchise tags, transition tags and tenders for restricted free agents.
The new numbers for each are below.
Franchise tag numbers
If a team uses the non-exclusive franchise tag on a player, these are the 2024 salary numbers for each position. It is the greater of these numbers or 120% of their 2023 salary.
- Quarterback: $38.301 million
- Running back: $11.851 million
- Wide receiver: $21.816 million
- Tight end: $12.693 million
- Offensive line: $20.985 million
- Defensive end: $21.324 million
- Defensive tackle: $22.102 million
- Linebacker: $24.007 million
- Cornerback: $19.802 million
- Safety: $17.123 million
- Kicker/punter: $5.984 million
Transition tag numbers
These are the 2024 salaries for players under the transition tag, per position.
- Quarterback: $34.367 million
- Running back: $9.765 million
- Wide receiver: $19.766 million
- Tight end: $10.878 million
- Offensive line: $19.04 million
- Defensive end: $19.076 million
- Defensive tackle: $18.491 million
- Linebacker: $19.971 million
- Cornerback: $17.215 million
- Safety: $13.815 million
- Kicker/punter: $5.433 million
Restricted free agent tenders
Restricted free agents (players whose contracts expire and have three accrued seasons) will make the following salaries if tendered:
- Right of first refusal (no draft compensation): $2.985 million
- Right of first refusal and compensation of player’s original draft round: $3.116 million
- Right of first refusal and second-round compensation: $4.89 million
- Right of first refusal and first-round compensation: $6.822 million
