Sad day for Dublin as popular shopping centre business closes doors after 28 years

After almost three decades in business in the capital, Dubliners were forced to say goodbye to a popular business over the weekend due to COVID-19.

Paper Pieces in Raheny Shopping Centre announced that it was folding up operations after 28 years of business because of "current trading conditions".

The establishment was a one-stop shop for awards, medal and trophies in Dublin and was well known to sports heads countywide and teachers looking to sort out their schools' Sports Day gear, Dublin Live reports.

Paper Pieces released a short but heartbreaking statement to their "lovely customers and friends".

They said: "Due to the current trading conditions and after 28 years happy trading in Raheny we have decided to close the business.

"We have entered a new era in our lives (Grandchildren!) and are looking forward to being with them.

"We would like to thank sincerely all our lovely customers and friends we have made, all the chats, all the banter and for the lovely memories we will have. We wish you all the very best for the future."

Tributes were paid to owners Andy and Cheryl with regulars said to see them go.

One person said: "I’m so sad to read this, having enjoyed many visits to Paper Pieces over the years. Good luck in your retirement Andy and Cheryl. Enjoy that precious time with grandchildren."

Another added: "All in Parkmore crèche are very sorry to hear you are closing, where will I get all those photocopies done? A heartfelt thanks for all your service over the years - and enjoy the precious years with the grandchildren and life in general."

A third said: "Andy and Cheryl, so very sorry to hear this. Always loved the bit of banter when I popped in for supplies for my classroom. You will be missed! Enjoy a well earned retirement."
