Prince William was spotted all on his lonesome at the Royal Ascot as Kate Middleton was nowhere to be seen. According to people in attendance the future King was looking somewhat sorry for himself without his wife by his side.
Middleton was initially on the list of attendees which was released by the Royal Ascot. The princess of Wales’ name appeared as one of the people who would be arriving in the four carriages that make up the royal procession. However, it appears there was a mix up between the Royal Ascot and the Palace as it was soon confirmed that she would not be in attendance.
Prince William looked rather down without Kate
Body language expert, Judi James, told Express.co.uk that the Prince looked “sad and subdued” without Kate there with him. She went on to say that William looked “rather reflective” as he sat by himself.
“While his father, the King, chatted happily to their guest in the carriage, using some animated, good-humoured body language displays, William seemed to sit back quietly with a slightly slumped posture, looking subdued and rather reflective without Kate at his side.”
We are used to seeing the Prince and Princess of Wales together and they are likely used to being together. They often attend events as a pair so it’s no wonder William has no clue what to do with himself without Kate there. The Prince was dressed sharply in a dark suit with a black top hat. Despite the pleasant event he seemed somewhat morose without Kate.
Judi suggested that it may have been William’s idea that Kate not “over do it” by attending Ascot. She had previously joined her husband at the Trooping of the Colour ceremony over the weekend and considering the fact she was only confirmed to be cancer-free earlier this year, it makes sense that William would feel protective of her. The expert explained that it would have been a long taxing day for Kate, especially in the heat, if she is recovering from an illness it makes sense she would take it a little easier.
Is Kate taking it too easy?
Of course, this comes shortly after reports that palace officials were growing increasingly frustrated with William and Kate who have been labeled “work-shy” in the past. Out of all the working royals, the Prince and Princess certainly do tend to find more time to relax, even when they’re supposed to be working.
Of course, most of the criticisms were leveled against William who will be King in the future and therefore will have to step up to the plate a bit more. However, Kate is the future Queen and while her cancer scare last year saw her take time away from her royal duties some may argue she’s taking too much time.
