GURDASPUR: Two days after the alleged killing of Bailder Darshan Singh in Gurdaspur district, the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) has accused the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) of allegedly patronizing illegal mining and has demanded a CBI probe into the incident.
"Sacrificed for the sake of Punjab on orders to stop illegal mining, Darshan Singh's family should receive Rs. 1 crore in compensation along with an insurance amount of Rs. 1 crore, as announced by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann," said SAD leader Bikram Singh Majithia after expressing condolences to the family in Nathpur village, Gurdaspur, on Saturday.
Majithia criticized Chief Minister Mann and Mining Minister Chetan Singh Joramajra for not visiting the family to express condolences three days after the murder of Bailder Darshan Singh.
Darshan Singh had thwarted attempts by the sand mafia to pilfer sand from the Kasur Branch canal when he apprehended illegal miners on Wednesday night. The SAD leader expressed shock that the police did not accompany Darshan Singh when he went to stop illegal sand mining. Joginder Singh, the driver of the tractor involved, has been arrested.
Majithia alleged that the AAP government, despite Arvind Kejriwal's claims before the 2022 assembly elections of earning Rs. 20,000 crore from mining in a single year, has only earned Rs. 438 crore in more than one and a half years, suggesting the promotion of illegal mining.
