Sachin Tendulkar: Indian cricket legend admitted to hospital after testing positive for coronavirus

Indian cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar has been admitted to hospital as a precautionary measure after contracting coronavirus.

Tendulkar, 47, revealed last week he was suffering with mild Covid symptoms as infections continue to surge in India.

But now the legendary batsman has been admitted to hospital as “a matter of abundant precaution” on the advice of doctors.

Tendulkar said on Twitter on Friday: "As a matter of abundant precaution under medical advice, I have been hospitalised.

“I hope to be back home in a few days. Take care and stay safe everyone.”

Tendulkar, the former India captain, retired from professional cricket in 2013 after scoring a still unmatched 100 international centuries during his 24-year career.

He lives in Mumbai, the capital of the Western Indian state of Maharashtra which has been hit hard by a resurgence in Covid cases in India.

Maharashtra recorded as many as 43,183 new cases on Friday, a record for single day infections as several states in India have been hit by a second wave of coronavirus.
