SA police stop high-speed pursuit after spiking car tyres three times

The allegedly stolen car in the Murray Bridge police impound.

South Australian Police had to spike the tyres of an allegedly stolen vehicle three times before they could bring a high-speed pursuit to an end overnight in the Adelaide Hills.

A 23-year-old woman was arrested and will face court later today.

The incident began with an alleged petrol drive-off at Keith just after 10pm when a white Ford sedan that had allegedly been stolen near Colac in Victoria left the scene and travelled at high speeds on the Princes Highway near Tailem Bend.

Police road spikes shredded the car's back tyre near Murray Bridge.

Police started a pursuit and put out spikes again, but the car did not stop.

As the vehicle moved along at slow speed towards Adelaide, it drove over spikes a third time on the South Eastern Freeway, but kept travelling on its rims before stopping at St Ives, near Mt Barker, in the Adelaide Hills.

A woman of no fixed address was charged with making off without payment, driving disqualified, dangerous driving, engaging in a police pursuit and unlawful possession of personal property.

She was refused bail and will appear in the Mt Barker Magistrates Court today.
