South Australian police have been forced to separate tennis player Nick Kyrgios and his model girlfriend, Chiara Passari, into different rooms after a heated argument during their hotel quarantine stay in Adelaide.

The couple are isolating in an Adelaide medi-hotel after spending time overseas.

A spokesperson from SA Police said officers were alerted to a verbal argument between two occupants at a medi-hotel on Thursday afternoon.

"An investigation was conducted, no offences were disclosed and both parties will now spend the remainder of their quarantine in separate rooms," the spokesperson said.

Passari later invited her Instagram followers to ask her questions online.

In response to a question asking, "What happened that fateful night at 161 nightclub?", Passari shared a photo which appears to show Kyrgios asleep in a bed with the caption, "That girl naked in bed with him isn't me by the way".

She also posted what appeared to be screenshots of private messages sent from Kyrgios's Instagram account to her account.

South Australia's Chief Public Health Officer Nicola Spurrier declined to comment on the matter during a COVID-19 press conference on Friday.

"You know, I might be considered a high-profile person if I was in quarantine and I'm not sure I'd need the public to know all of my ins and outs.

"I haven't had a briefing on that and I've got nothing further to say."

Kyrgios's return to Australia follows his first-round loss in the US Open in August and representing Team World in the Laver Cup in Boston last month.

The former world number 13 has previously said that he intends to take the rest of the year off.

"As long as I'm on the court, I'll try and give my best but I'm not going to lie and say I plan to play for four or five more years on tour. That's just not me," he said in September.

"I need to go back home. I've been travelling for four and half months now. My Mum's not doing too well with her health. I'd like to go back and see her. I want to spend time with my family."

ABC has contacted Kyrgios's management and Tennis Australia for comment.
