Rylan Clark 'tried to take own life twice' after Dan Neal split

Rylan Clark has told of his mental health struggles following his split from ex-husband Dan Neal.

The This Morning presenter, 34, admitted he tried to take his own life - twice - following the breakdown of his marriage. The former X Factor star separated with his former husband in 2021 after six years of marriage after admitting he had been unfaithful to him “years ago”.

When Rylan admitted his adultery to his partner, the former police officer decided to end their relationship. The breakup caused the TV personality to become "quite ill" as he took a four-month break from his BBC Radio 2 show.

At the time, he admitted he had been hospitalised as "dark thoughts" crept into his mind. Now, while speaking on High Performance podcast, Rylan explained the extent of how low he was actually feeling.

He said: “I think my marriage ending was the catalyst for the machine stopping. But actually, it was nine years of never stopping and never having time to breathe and actually understand what happened to me.

“For five months I just stopped and shut down. I tried to take my own life. I tried to do it twice.”
