Ryanair passengers 'pray and cry' during frightening turbulence on flight

Passengers were reportedly 'praying and crying' during a bumpy flight from Liverpool to Derry, in the midst of conditions created by Storm Brendan.

The Ryanair flight FR 9884 was en route from Liverpool John Lennon Airport, to City of Derry Airport on Monday when it came into the path of turbulence, the Liverpool Echo reports.

Much of Britain has had weather warnings in place this week, as strong gales and heavy rain has swept across the region.

Yellow weather warnings were put in place for Northern Ireland, much of the western half of the UK and the north east of Scotland from 12pm on Monday to midnight.

In footage from the Ryanair flight, the pilot expertly battled the high winds and turbulence.

Passengers were apparently applauding and cheering the crew on as they overcame the tricky conditions.

Speaking to the Derry Journal, passenger Kloe McNeill, who had been in Liverpool for a girls weekend, described the scary experience.

She said: "The plane went up and round and was coming down along the water again the second time and a big gust of wind took us out again.

"The turbulence was mad and the second time it happened everyone was stuck to the back of their seats and the woman beside me grabbed my arm.

"She must have been so scared. You could here people getting more anxious as time went on and it felt like such a long time."

Kloe added: "They [the crew and pilot] were wonderful. They were so calm and were keeping everyone reassured that we were going to be alright and were passing out sick bags."
