Ryanair boss predicts removal of all travel restrictions by June

Ryanair boss Micheal O'Leary has predicted that all travel restrictions will be removed and that people will be able to go on holiday this summer.

Mr O'Leary appeared on Good Morning Britain today and spoke to Susanna Reid and Ranvir Singh about the airline's plan for the summer.

He said that by the summer school holidays and thanks to the success of the vaccine rollout there would be the "removal of all restrictions on short haul flights".

Mr O'Leary said: "It would be foolhardy to be booking in April or May, but certainly with the school holidays coming round in June, July and August and the success of the rollout of the vaccine led by the UK, Europe will catch up dramatically in April and May particularly with the rollout of the Johnson and Johnson vaccine.

"I think you're going to see the removal of all restrictions on short haul flights between the UK and Spain, the UK and Portugal."

He also said that the airline had created 26 new routes to places like Santorini and Ibiza in time for the summer.

Susanna Reid brought up France and the fact that the country may be going on the red list.

Susanna said: "I think it would be completely wrong to consider going on holiday to France at the moment."

Mr O'Leary said: "Yes but we're at the end of March, by the time you get to June, we believe they'll be a decline in case rates and the success of the vaccine rollout, which most of EU countries hope to catch up by June.

"We think there will be no hotel quarantines from June to September.

"And if there are delays or disruptions you can change those bookings free of charge, you're not taking any risks."

Mr O'Leary confirmed that people would still have to wear masks on the plane and that families would be sat together for safety reasons.

Susanna asked him about the issue of vaccine passports and he said: "We will let anyone fly but you can put your negative PCR test or vaccine confirmation on your Ryanair app, if its necessary, but we don't think it will be."
