Ryan Tannehill posted more passing yards than another Titans QB in first start for the team

Hardly a Tennessee Titans fan was complaining as quarterback Ryan Tannehill led the team to their first victory in two weeks with a 23-20 win over the Los Angeles Chargers.

He was 23-of-29 passing for 312 yards and two touchdowns, delivering passes to eight receivers for positive yardage.

Tannehill’s performance was efficient, but also historical in a sense.

His 312 passing yards were more than any other at the position in their first start for the Titans.

Neil O’Donnell previously held the record with 310 passing yards against the Cleveland Browns in 1999.

Former LSU quarterback Zach Mettenberger ranked third on the list with 299 passing yards in an October meeting with the Houston Texans in 2014. Billy Volek’s 295 passing yards against the Buffalo Bills in December of 2003 ranks fourth overall.

Tennessee will hope to see consistency from Tannehill moving forward — something the team didn’t exactly get from Marcus Mariota before they made the decision to pull him in the third quarter of Week 6’s 16-0 road loss to the Denver Broncos.

In what little action Tannehill has seen this year, he’s completed 36-of-45 passes for 456 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions.

Tannehill and the Titans will take on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at noon CT on Sunday in Nissan Stadium.
