Ryan Reynolds stuns Welsh family with touching gift

Hollywood actor and Wrexham football club co-owner Ryan Reynolds surprised a family with a touching gesture. Rob Clarke, who runs the Mad4Movies entertainment store in Wrexham Butcher’s Market, was stunned to receive a box of more than 100 DVDs from the Deadpool star and his wife Blake Lively.

The shop owner posted on Facebook on Saturday: "Just when you think things couldn't get more surreal in this town of ours... I'm still figuring out Twitter, but last week I got an inbox off none other than Ryan Reynolds!" Mr Clarke said he called his wife Carrie over to be sure the message was really from Reynolds, who took over Wrexham AFC last year with actor Rob McElhenney.

"It was, and he told me that he and Blake were having a clear out of their office and came across multiple DVD/blu-ray copies of some of their films," Mr Clarke added. "He proceeded to tell me that they have signed every one of them and are sending them to me!

"Anyway, today they arrived – a box of over 100!! These are Region 1 / Zone A American releases. Since they arrived, and with Ryan's blessing, we have decided that we will use some to raise funds for ITP support, which is a condition our eldest son Charlie lives with. Once we figure out the finer details of how we will go about it, we will do a new post with the details. So if interested, keep you're eyes peeled."

It was already an exciting week for Mr Clarke, who found out on Friday that he will feature in TV series Welcome to Wrexham, which follows Reynolds and McElhenney's footballing journey in the town. "Mad4Movies is going worldwide," said Mr Clarke.

The Wrexham co-owners visited the shop last year and got talking to Mr and Mrs Clarke and their sons Charlie and Henry. Mr Clarke told The Leader at the time: “They signed some DVDs, including a Green Lantern one which Ryan jokingly admitted wasn’t his finest work – he wasn’t afraid to have a laugh at himself... They’ve both had some great things to say about helping not only the football club but the people of Wrexham too."

Welcome to Wrexham will start streaming on August 25 on Disney Plus, FX and Hulu in the UK. You can read more Wrexham news here.
