Ryan Kent is Rangers transfer priority says Barry Ferguson as legend outlines 'big bids' stance

In-form Ryan Kent is the one player Rangers must hold onto this summer claims former skipper Barry Ferguson.

The winger impressed against Celtic as he produced another influential display in the derby day rout.

Links with a switch south of the border, with Leeds United among the reported interested parties, have failed to go away after a season.

Former captain Ferguson insists the Ibrox hierarchy must knock back any potential interest from suitors coming in with big money offers.

The pundit told the Go Radio Football Show that he reckons talisman Alfredo Morelos should be sold ahead of the 24-year-old.

Ferguson said: "In terms of Ryan Kent, I just thought he looked so sharp (against Celtic) and so direct. He was just in top form.

"I just hope he is one player that the manager is allowed to keep. I’m sure if clubs down south like Leeds and other clubs were watching the game, he was the stand out performer.

"I know Roofe came in and scored a double but for me Ryan Kent was the outstanding player on the park by a country mile."

Fellow pundit Davie Provan posed the question to Ferguson who would he rather keep in Govan, Kent or Alfredo Morelos.

The former Rangers skipper responded: “One thing that has impressed me is he has brought a level of consistency to his game (Kent) week in and week out.

“He is performing at a high level. It’s not just the tricks, but he does the dirty side of the game and tracks back.

“For me it’s key that Rangers keep him. If you’re asking me the question of who would I keep against Morelos, I think you’ve got to keep Ryan Kent.

“If big bids come in for both of them, which I fully expect them to, Kent is the one I would keep.”

Kent addressed transfer speculation ahead of the clash with Celtic, telling Sky Sports: "It's just about playing in the now.

"It's nice to be linked with other big clubs, but you've got to understand your duty to where you are."
