Ryan Giggs on area in which he couldn't match 'confident' Man Utd star Bruno Fernandes

Ryan Giggs has singled out one area of Bruno Fernandes' game for special praise, admitting that he could never match the Portuguese's confidence from the penalty spot.

Fernandes joined Manchester United in a £47million move from Sporting in the January window and has hit the ground running in the Premier League.

The Portugal midfielder has scored or assisted on five occasions in as many league games and won the Premier League Player of the Month award for February.

And Red Devils legend Giggs, who scored 168 goals for the club, believes he "could never" be as cool as Fernandes from 12 yards.

The Wales manager told beIN Sports : "My technique with penalty taking was - you know you see players looking at the goalkeeper?

"Eden Hazard - I mean he's amazing, he just goes up so slowly, and even Bruno Fernandes now with a little hop.

"I could never do that. My philosophy was: 'I'm putting it low into the corner - even if the goalkeeper goes the right way, he's not gonna save it if I execute it right.'

"That was my philosophy, so it doesn't matter if he went the right way or not. If I do low, side-netting, he shouldn't be able to save it."

Giggs, who scored five penalties for United, also highlighted Paul Pogba's unusual style from the spot.

He added: "That was my philosophy, rather than looking at the goalkeeper, trying to play mind games and having the confidence which Hazard and Bruno Fernandes [have].

"Pogba did for a while that slow run up. I could never do that."

Fernandes has already scored two penalties for United since his January move and boasts an impressive career record of 22 penalties scored and only two missed.

It remains to be seen if his teammate Pogba will resume spot-kick duties when he returns from injury.

The France midfielder's record from twelve yards is 10 penalties scored and five missed.
