Ryan Giggs could hold the key to Manchester United summer transfer

Billy Meredith, Mark Hughes, Ryan Giggs. Manchester United have a rich history of building successful sides around the very best Welsh talent.

It is this rich tapestry mixed with the club's strong celtic connections which endlessly fuel the suggestion of a move for Gareth Bale every time a transfer window looms large.

The Real Madrid forward remains one of the best players in world football on his day, but an injury ravaged past along with his high price tag often puts United fans off the idea of him following in the footstep of his national manager and becoming the next legendary No.11 at Old Trafford.

Even if the club opt against signing the 29-year-old at the end of the season, that shouldn't necessarily stop them from recruiting one of the brightest sparks in the current Wales side.

Throughout the season there has been a growing case for David Brooks to make the leap from Bournemouth and into one of the top teams in English football. The fact he pipped Bale and Aaron Ramsey to be named Welsh Player of the Year last week for performances over the past 18 months speaks volumes of how highly the midfielder is rated.

David Brooks sends Manchester United fans wild with dazzling Wales display

Bale might as well be the reigning King of Wales, but Brooks is quite clearly a favourite to be the rightful heir to his adoring kingdom.

Even though the former has scored a Champions League winning brace over the past year, it is immense credit to Brooks that his consistent performances in the Premier League have catapulted him to an even higher esteem.

Perhaps the biggest concern with his rise in the fact that he is still so raw at the tender age of 21, and he still might not ready to make the leap into the intense glaring limelight at Old Trafford.

It is true Brooks needs time and it must be understood that his dramatic progression will surely plateau at some point, but the manner in which he has established himself in the Premier League is far than just social media hype.

Manchester United 'to battle Liverpool FC and Bayern Munich for Chelsea winger Callum Hudson-Odoi'

Eddie Howe was eager to sign the youngster up to a new long-term deal at Bournemouth earlier in the year and it seems set in stone he will stay at least another year on the South Coast. If he is to eventually move on, then surely the influence of his national team manager could make the idea of playing for United that tiny bit more appetising.

Speaking upon receipt of his Welsh Player of the Year award last week Brooks himself admitted it "has been a whirlwind season, making the transition to the Premier League and playing for Wales."

Although he is naturally dreaming of more, it is crucial he doesn't get devoured by the whirlwind and crumble under its intense pressure.

The fact Brooks used to play for City as a child would make any idea of a move to United even sweeter, and while speculation mounts over a move for Jadon Sancho, Brooks might just prove to be a wiser acquisition should a transfer arise.

Brooks might not quite be ready enough for the first-team, but he is certainly a player who can be in a couple of years time.
