Ryan Fitzpatrick’s quarantine beard goes viral after Zoom conference

It will come as a surprise to absolutely no one that Miami Dolphins quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick has a magnificent beard — but the COVID-19 quarantine that has forced much of the country into isolation over the last two months has allowed Fitzpatrick to level up his facial hair game even further. Fitzpatrick joined the South Florida media this week for a Zoom conference call to speak about everything from the Dolphins’ offseason program to the selection of Tua Tagovailoa and trying to prolong his tenure as Miami’s starting quarterback.

Fitzpatrick, as always, had great perspective and insight on the Dolphins’ situation and how his role will help this team to continue to improve — but it was all secondary in the eyes of social media to the bushy, robust beard Fitzpatrick sported for the duration of the call. As it turns out, Fitzpatrick is fairly particular about his beard — the lockdown has prevented him from seeing one of the select few barbers he trusts with his beard.

And so naturally he’s just letting it go wild.

“There is really only two people in the country that I trust to touch this thing,” quipped Fitzpatrick. “One is in Tampa, one is in New Jersey. It’s been going ever since everything got shutdown. But, the neck hair is out of control right now. I’m glad you can’t see it.”

The internet had plenty of fun with Fitzpatrick’s look — social media was flooded with jokes but also plenty of praise from the beard aficionados, too. And for as brilliant as it is, we should all be hopeful Fitz gets a chance to trim this thing soon or else he might not be able to get a clean fit with his helmet when it comes time to strap up the pads for training camp.
