'Ruthless, my manager!" - Arsenal fans react to Mikel Arteta's team selection vs Olympiacos

Mikel Arteta has kept his word and named a strong side to face Olympiacos in the Europa League round of 32 first leg.

Surprisingly Bernd Leno starts in goal ahead of Emi Martinez. The Argentine has been the Gunners' cup goalkeeper throughout the season but opting for the German could show how much this game means for Arsenal.

The back four remains relatively unchanged as despite Hector Bellerin dropping out the side for Sokratis, Shkodran Mustafi, David Luiz and Bukayo Saka all remain.

Lucas Torreira hasn't travelled because of illness and Matteo Guendouzi will take his place alongside Granit Xhaka. The Frenchman was dropped for the 4-0 win over Newcastle but Arteta insisted this was based on training rather than being a disciplinary action.

Joe Willock takes the No.10. role he played against Bournemouth and will be flanked by Gabriel Martinelli and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. Martinelli appears to be playing off the right - a position he didn't excel at when he last played there against Burnley.

This leaves Alexandre Lacazette to lead the line off the back of his added time goal against Newcastle. Breaking his goal drought, Arteta will hope to see similar production from him tonight.

As well as keeping Emi Martinez on the bench, the decision not to start Ainsley Maitland-Niles has puzzled Arsenal fans.

Arteta made it clear that he would be naming a strong side last night in his pre-match press conference.

"We had a break of 15 days. We played just one game so tomorrow I’m going to send out a team that I think is the best to play," he said.

"The rest of the game will take care of itself. We cannot control everything. Sometimes you think about resting somebody and in training he gets a little issue or he gets sick.

"So tomorrow we will send out a team that we think is the best to beat Olympiakos and the rest of the teams after that will take care of themselves."
