Ruth Langsford says Eamonn Holmes divorce felt ‘impossible to survive’

Ruth Langsford has admitted that it felt “impossible to survive” after her “devastating” split from TV presenter Eamonn Holmes.

The former This Morning hosts announced their plans to divorce after 14 years of marriage in May 2024. They were said to have been “determined to stay friends and keep things amicable” at the time.

Opening up about the break-up in her new book, Langsford revealed that she would often start her mornings after the split by crying in the shower before work.

“The biggest emotion that threatened to swallow me up in the early days was sadness,” she wrote in Feeling Fabulous, as revealed by The Mirror. “When you have been with somebody for a long time – 26 years in our case – and had imagined what your future would look like, there is a sense of deep loss.”

She added that she expected to be with Holmes “forever” and found the split “incredibly hard to come to terms with”.

“Suddenly, life was different, with no clue what the months and years ahead would look like,” she added.

“I am not happy my marriage is over, but I have accepted it. I think this has been the biggest turning point for me because fighting against the inevitable is exhausting and pointless.”

Langsford, 65, and Holmes, 66, began dating 30 years ago before welcoming their son Jack in 2002. They went on to host This Morning together, regularly presenting the show from 1999 until 2022.

The pair fronted several programmes together, including Eamonn and Ruth: How The Other Half Lives and Do The Right Thing with Eamonn and Ruth.

Langsford now appears regularly as a host on Loose Women. Holmes has presented GB News’ Breakfast Show since 2022.

Appearing on This Morning on Monday (23 February), Langsford admitted that the “hardest” part of the break-up was having it play out in public.

“That goes with the territory, that goes with the job – I accept that,” she said. “I don’t discuss our divorce or our relationship break-up [in the book]. What I discuss is picking yourself up, dusting yourself off and starting all over again.”

Earlier in February, Langsford said that she felt blindsided and “broken” when her marriage to Holmes ended.

“I just didn’t think I’d find myself here, and I wasn’t strong at the start,” she said. “I was broken. Broken heart. Broken dreams. We all have an image of how we think our life and future is going to be. This wasn’t mine.”

After the couple’s split, Holmes started dating relationship counsellor Katie Alexander, going public in 2024.

Langsford admitted that she’s not ready for a new partner as she hasn’t “healed from the last one” yet.
