Ruth Langsford recalls 'embarrassing' gaffe on first date with Eamonn Holmes

Ruth Langsford couldn't suppress a giggle on today's This Morning as she took a trip down memory lane.

Ruth and husband and co-host Eamonn Holmes harked back to their first date together, when they headed to the cinema.

The TV couple tied the knot in 2010, and celebrated ten years of marriage over the summer.

But it didn't get off to the smoothest of starts, Ruth recalled, who insisted onm getting the tickets.

"I went to the cashpoint and it went 'err-err'," she laughed, meaning it had rejected her card.

"I was so embarrassed, and I said 'I don't know why that's happened', I dropped my bag and everything fell out."

Turning to Eamonn, Ruth added: "You rescued me, and said 'I'll pay for the tickets.'"

Ruth and Eamonn currently host the Friday slot on This Morning, but are set to be replaced by Alison Hammond and Dermot O'Leary in a major shake-up by ITV.

The Mirror exclusively revealed that Ruth and Eamonn were being replaced, and would be brought in for the summer holidays when regular hosts Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield take their holiday.

Having hosted This Morning in their regular slot for 14 years, a telly insider said of the decision: "It's time for a change and they are perfect.

"Eamonn is pretty furious and everyone feels for him and Ruth, they are well liked on the team, but sometimes tough decisions have to be made."

It's thought Eamonn had confided he feared being to "male, pale and stale" in the weeks before the decision was made.

*This Morning airs on weekdays at 10am on ITV.
