Russia says Moscow restaurant bombing was a terrorist attack

  • A bomb explosion near an upscale Italian restaurant in central Moscow on Saturday evening resulted in three fatalities and 21 injuries.
  • Russian officials said that an unidentified woman, who was among the dead, attempted to enter the Balzi Rossi restaurant at Kudrinskaya Square before her explosive device detonated.
  • The other two victims were a security guard who stopped the woman and a restaurant customer; Russian authorities have described the incident as a terrorist attack.
  • Reports from the Kommersant newspaper, citing sources, suggested the bomb might have been intended for guests on the restaurant's outdoor terrace and could have been detonated remotely.
  • The incident occurred amidst ongoing conflict, with Ukraine recently striking Russian oil refineries, an air base, and a Russian-flagged container ship in the Black Sea.
