Russell Wilson giving rookie receiver DK Metcalf chance to make plays

Rookie wide receiver DK Metcalf suited up as a Seahawk for the first time last Thursday night against the Denver Broncos to open the preseason.

For Seattle, he only caught one pass for eight yards on four targets.

“You saw in the game, he’s a fingernail off of two massive, big plays,” quarterback Russell Wilson said of Metcalf this week. “I think he’s going to be really special for us. I think, the key for him is, a key for any great, highly touted player and anybody really is to remain humble and keep working. That’s just the key.”

The recipient of media hype since he was selected with the final pick in the second round of this year’s NFL draft, Metcalf has been constantly in the spotlight. Wilson appreciates how the first-year player has been able to handle himself thus far.

“He’s got great humility,” Wilson said. “He’s got great poise. He’s confident. He’s competitive, as you can imagine. He’s got all the athletic ability in the world and so it’s our job to give him a chance and let him make plays.”

Metcalf will get the chance to do exactly that this Sunday night when the Seahawks travel to Minnesota to square off against the Vikings in prime time.
