Russell Wilson calls rookie wide receiver DK Metcalf ‘freak of nature’

Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson could have a whole new set of targets to choose from this season. But with Doug Baldwin officially off the roster, Tyler Lockett looks to become Wilson’s next go-to weapon.

“Obviously we’re losing up Pro Bowl All-Pro type player in Doug Baldwin and what he’s able to do, but Tyler Lockett had a phenomenal year last year,” Wilson said last week after OTAs. “It’s his time to step up again. He’s going to have to play a major, major role this year, which he’s one of the best receivers in the league and all the things he can do to separate.”

Lockett isn’t the only options for the Seahawks, who selected three wide receivers in the NFL draft in April. One in particular, has caught Wilson’s eye.

“I think in terms of DK Metcalf coming in, he’s a freak of nature,” Wilson told reporters Tuesday. “He’s a guy that can run as fast as can be. He can go up and get it, he can run all the routes and stuff like that. So it’ll be exciting to see his evolution, I think his work ethic and everything else.”

Now that Seattle has entered phase 3 of the offseason workouts and most non-contact drills are permitted, Wilson will get his first look at the rookie sooner than later.
