Russell Martin plots Rangers raid for backroom staffer at Leicester City

Russell Martin is closing in on his next role with Leicester City ready to hand him a second chance.

The former Rangers head coach had struggles at Ibrox and was axed, going down as one of the worst bosses in the club's history.

Martin's stock down south, however, remains high having had stints at Southampton and MK Dons as well as Swansea City. And it's the Foxes who are preparing to take a chance on the 40-year-old in League One.

Former Scotland cap Martin will likely make the switch to the King Power sooner rather than later and it's being reported by the Daily Record that he plans to raid Ibrox for two members of the backroom staff.

Sport science chief Rhys Owen is one Martin hopes to convince to head to the EFL with him as he looks to get the band back together having already urged long-time assistant Matt Gill to come with him.

Owen has worked extensively with Martin over his managerial career having been together at Swansea as well as Saints in 2023. He joined his old gaffer in Glasgow, too, when given the chance.

Head coach Danny Rohl has been benefiting from Owen's expertise since Martin departed so it may take some convincing to remove him from his position at Ibrox.
