UPDATE: The A9 has reopened in both directions following the crash south of Dunkeld.
A STRETCH of the key A9 road was closed in both directions due to a crash.
Police were informed of an incident at around 6.10am on Friday, with Traffic Scotland confirming that as of 2.20pm the road remained closed south of Birnam.
Emergency services remained at the scene with drivers urged to find alternative routes and plan accordingly.
Diversions were in place for both north and southbound routes until around 7pm on Friday evening.
Traffic Scotland has warned that traffic is "queueing heavily" on the southbound approach to the closure point, while elsewhere on the A9 the northbound section near Blackford is also suffering congestion due to road works.

For motorists driving north, Traffic Scotland suggested moving on to the A85 to Perth at the Inveralmond roundabout, before moving on to the A822, the A826 and onto the A827 where permanent, standard signage resumes.
Southbound diversions saw drivers moving on to the A923, the A93 from the Perth Road Junction, and then on to a series of local roads including West Bridge Street, Charlotte Street, Barrack Street and Atholl Street, before joining Inveralmond Roundabout and following permanent signage.
Both diversions were journeys of around 31.7 miles.
Police Scotland said in a statement: "The A9 is closed in both directions south of Dunkeld following a crash reported to us around 6.10am this morning, Friday, 31 July, 2026.
Emergency services are in attendance, and motorists are asked to use an alternative route."
