RuPaul's Drag Race star Eureka feels 'blessed' as she comes out as a trans woman

Eureka O'Hara has revealed that she is a transgender woman and said she feels "blessed" to finally know who she is after years of struggling with her gender identity.

The 32-year-old, who appeared as a contestant on season 10 of RuPaul's Drag Race, said she has been on a "magical" journey after re-examining who she is.

Eureka decided to transition after meeting Mandy, who transitioned in their 70s, on an upcoming episode of HBO show We’re Here.

The series follows Eureka and her Drag Race co-stars Bob the Drag Queen and Shangela as they travel across America and recruit small-town residents to participate in drag shows.

"I’m blessed now because I know who I am without question.

"It's been really magical and it's been probably the easiest transitional and coming out journey that I've ever been on," she said in a new interview.

The drag queen said she hopes to inspire people with her story and teach others that we are all "ever-evolving people".

"Hearing the story of Mandy regretting losing all that time — and all the regret and the pain that she was going through during the time of not fully being herself — was really important to me," Eureka told People.

She said she started "spiralling" after leaving Mandy's house and started searching her mind for answers before realising she is a trans woman.

When Eureka decided to transition, she leaned on Bob the Drag Queen and Shangela for support, as well as her drag mother Jacqueline St. James.

Eureka initially identified as a cisgender gay man, before living as a transgender woman from ages 18 to 22. She later identified as non-binary.

The star has now changed her name to Eureka D. Huggard – inspired by her mother Ulrike, with Huggard being her surname at birth – and has been on hormone replacement therapy for seven months.

She is aiming to legally change her gender and hopes to undergo a physical transformation.

Eureka said she is going to do what she needs in order to "feel even more comfortable in my skin."
