Running back Raheem Mostert to 49ers: Trade me or pay me

Raheem Mostert wants a new contract. Again.

And he deserves one. Again, only this time after emerging as much more than a special-teams ace.

Mostert broke out last season as the 49ers' leading and most explosive rusher, after agreeing to a three-year, $9 million contract in the 2019 offseason.

Mostert's agent, Brett Tessler, announced a stalemate in contract talks and thus the trade demand via Twitter, which Mostert retweeted.

"After months of unproductive talks with the 49ers about fairly adjusting Raheem Mostert's contract (which paid him for special teams) we have requested a trade," Tessler tweeted. "Disappointing that it would come to this for a guy who led all NFL RBs in YPC & helped lead them to the Super Bowl."

Mostert set a franchise record by rushing for 220 yards and four touchdowns in the 49ers' NFC Championship Game win over Green Bay.

He is one of many 49ers in line for a raise. But the top priority is tight end George Kittle, who is entering the final year of his rookie deal with a $2 million salary.

The 49ers traded Matt Breida, their 2017 and '18 leading rusher, during the draft. Mostert's backups include Tevin Coleman, Jerick McKinnon and Jeff Wilson Jr.
