Rules for pubs and restaurants after lockdown 2 outlined by Boris Johnson

The Prime Minister has outlined the new rules for pubs and restaurants when the second national lockdown ends on December 2.

Pubs and bars in areas placed into the “tougher” Tier 3 will only be able to offer takeaways and deliveries, the Prime Minister confirmed.

And while establishments will once again be allowed to stay open until 11pm, punters must still order their last drink by 10pm.

Johnson told MPs that venues will be allowed to give customers time to drink up to ensure people leave at staggered times.

Speaking to the Commons this afternoon (Monday, November 23), he said lockdown measures will expire and not be renewed after December 2.

Johnson told MPs: “From next Wednesday people will be able to leave their home for any purpose and meet others in outdoor public spaces, subject to the rule of six, collective worship, weddings and outdoor sports can resume, and shops, personal care, gyms and the wider leisure sector can reopen.

“But without sensible precautions, we would risk the virus escalating into a winter or New Year surge.

“The incidents of the disease is, alas, still widespread in many areas.”

Outlining the varying restrictions in the different tiers, Mr Johnson said: “In particular, in Tier 1 people should work from home wherever possible.

“In Tier 2, alcohol may only be served in hospitality settings as part of a substantial meal.

“In Tier 3, indoor entertainment, hotels and other accommodation will have to close, along with all forms of hospitality except for delivery and takeaways.”

Mr Johnson added that he is “very sorry” for the “hardship” that such restrictions will cause business owners.

Only people who live together are allowed indoors, meaning those who want to have a meal with friends will have to wrap up warm.

Pubs, bars and restaurants will again be forced to remain closed in tier 3, except for delivery and takeaway.
