Ruben Dias and Aymeric Laporte questioned for their role in PSG goal against Man City

The communication between Manchester City centre-backs Ruben Dias and Aymeric Laporte has been questioned after their side conceded an early goal to PSG in the Champions League.

PSG claimed the lead against City during their Group A tie through an attack down the right-hand side.

Former Everton midfielder Idrissa Gana Gueye applied the finishing touch, smashing the ball across the goal and into the roof of the net with eight minutes gone after Neymar missed his kick from yards out.

Despite dominating much of the play following the goal, City struggled to find the equaliser during the first half in Paris and went in at the break 1-0 down thanks to Gueye's goal.

And during the interval, BT Sport pundits Rio Ferdinand and Joleon Lescott questioned whether the Manchester City centre-backs could have handled the attack which led to the gaol slightly better.

Ferdinand said: "If you are Dias you’re screaming at Laporte: 'Get out there, get out there now, don’t stay there, go close him down quicker, there’s enough white shirts there to deal with the situation.'

"The moment he stands off and is in between, the indecision is a domino effect on everybody else and leaves everyone picking up the pieces.

Lescott replied: "Laporte sees the potential run of Messi into and for me, Dias, if he controls that better he can voice his opinion and tell him [Laporte] to stay out wide he can then engage Mbappe a bit closer."

City were inches away from an equaliser twice within a matter of seconds midway through the first half but remarkably managed to hit the bar on both occasions.

First Sterling headed against the woodwork from close range and then Bernardo Silva also struck it from the rebound.

Before the game, BT Sports pundit Ferdinand said PSG's right wing would be 'a huge battle'.

He said: "The right-hand side is going to be a huge battle, Cancelo and Grealish for City and Hakimi for Paris. Grealish will be saying, 'if you dare to leave me that kind of space, I’d love to exploit that'.

"If Hakimi is going to run forward, that's where Grealish lives and breathes."
