RTE Evanne Ní Chuilinn personal challenges from new baby to work heartbreak

Evanne Ní Chuilinn has been a regular on our tv screens for some of Ireland's most important sporting moments.

She regularly presents the sports news on RTE's Six One and started out in the state broadcaster as a sub-editor in 2004 having graduated from NUIG.

Family Life

The 40-year-old Kilkenny native is expecting her third child with her husband Brian Fitzsimons and a third sibling for her kids 9-year-old son Séimí and six-year-old daughter Péigí.

Pregnancy struggles

Trying for a third baby has been anything but straightforward for Evanne and Brian.

The couple has been trying to conceive for the past three years with the help of IVF before finally getting a breakthrough with this new pregnancy.

"It's been a long road. People are shocked when I tell them because I think they make assumptions when you have a nine and a six-year-old, that you're done", she told the RTE Guide.

"Thankfully IVF worked first time. It's disheartening each month when it doesn't happen for you and people don't really talk about it."

The new baby is due next year and it won't be the only new arrival as they also plan on getting a golden retriever puppy.

Olympic dream shattered

However, being 13 weeks pregnant, Ní Chuilinn's dream of travelling to an Olympic Games has been dashed.

She was due to travel to Tokyo with fellow anchors Jacqui Hurley and Des Cahill in what is RTE's first time covering the games from inside the arena.

However, she's had to cancel that trip because she's unvaccinated and pregnant.

"I'm pulling out for the best possible reason and for the only reason I would pull out; for my family and my health."

Instead, Ní Chuilinn will be presenting RTE's coverage of the Paralympics from RTE studios.
