RTE Crimecall viewers share hilarious reactions to 'top tier' TV show

People watching Crimecall on RTE One last night were quick to take to social media with their witty observations of the long-running show.

The programme has been on Irish airwaves for 56 years and has been an important public service in helping the Gardai solve investigations across the country.

Presented by Sharon Ni Bheolain, the hour-long show features dramatic reconstructions of major crimes and CCTV footage of real criminal activity.

Gardai often requests information from the public, and last night, a fresh appeal was issued to help identify the body of a man recovered from the sea in Co Clare over a decade ago.

The man was found in the water off the Cliffs of Moher in July 2010 and Crimecall asked for the public's assistance in finding out the man's identity.

While the show's topics are very serious and involve real-life perpetrators and victims of crimes, viewers on Monday could not help but share their light-hearted reactions to some of the content, particularly the reconstructions.

People on Twitter shared their 'only in Ireland' observations of the programme, stating that other countries would find it strange that prime time television would broadcast appeals for missing dogs and shop robberies.

Other users said they were "obsessed" with Crimecall, particularly the "over the top" cinematic soundtrack, dramatic reconstructions and commentary from Sharon Ni Bheolain.

Here are some of the humorous takes on last night's show:
