Roy O'Donovan becomes Robbie Fowler’s first signing at Brisbane Roar

Roy O'Donovan has become Robbie Fowler’s first signing at Australian top flight side Brisbane Roar.

The former Cork City and Sunderland striker joins on a two-year deal from Newcastle Jets having been at Central Coast Mariners before that.

“I’m delighted to be given the opportunity to sign,” said the Cork man, 33, who also had spells in the Singapore and Indonesian leagues after leaving England in 2014.

“It’s an exciting time to be joining the club and the chance to work with Premier League legend Robbie Fowler was a big factor in my decision,” he said today.

Fowler was appointed Brisbane boss on a two-year contract in April in what is the 44-year-old's first major managerial role.

And the Liverpool legend said today: “I’m very happy that we have secured Roy for the next two seasons.

“Getting a quality striker with a proven track record in the A-League was a key position for us to fill.

“I was impressed with what I’ve seen of Roy so far and genuinely feel that there is plenty more to come from him.

“I look forward to his contribution as a goal scorer and as an experienced member of the squad.”
