Roy Keane throws pen in disgust in furious rant at Aston Villa's defending vs Man Utd

Roy Keane was left gasping at Aston Villa's defending against Manchester United and even threw his pen as he lamented their play.

The relegation threatened outfit barely troubled the Red Devils in what was a comfortable 3-0 win for the visitors.

But it was the second goal they conceded that really made Keane, who was a previous assistant manager at the club, really lose his temper.

Tyrone Mings was dispossessed on the halfway line and sprinted back into position, but he stood off Mason Greenwood and allowed the teenager to power home from 20 yards.

Keane claimed he "couldn't understand it" before ridding them of an sympathy.

He said: "When your experienced players cannot do the basics... I’m scratching my head.

"I can’t understand why he can’t go two yards and that’s why Pepe Reina is like a madman shouting at him.

"You’ve got Dean Smith, John Terry in the dressing room…

"Why he doesn’t go the two yards I can’t understand it, no sympathy for Aston Villa tonight.

"Before the game I thought a bit of energy, big club, I had a short time there, brilliant people there.

"But when your defenders defend like that, you deserve everything you get."

Villa boss Dean Smith was aggrieved that United were awarded a first-half penalty when it looked as if Bruno Fernandes in fact fouled Ezri Konsa - not the other way round.

Nevertheless his side remain in the drop zone, four points adrift of safety with four games to go.

Villa have not won in their last ten games, picking up just two points in that time.
