Roy Keane proved spot on with Victor Lindelof and Eric Bailly Man Utd comments

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer made a controversial call to drop Eric Bailly and bring Victor Lindelof back into the starting line-up for their clash against Liverpool.

Bailly had impressed alongside Harry Maguire in United's 1-0 win over Burnley on Tuesday but Solskjaer decided to revert to his favoured centre-back pairing of Maguire and Lindelof for the trip to Anfield.

Explaining his decision ahead of the game, Solskjaer told MUTV: "Victor has been training this week to get ready for this game, I gave him the Burnley game off."

In the last four games that Bailly has started United have conceded just once but, despite his impressive record, club legend Roy Keane claimed it would not be "such a big gamble to put him [Lindelof] back in".

Speaking to Sky Sports before kick-off, Keane said: "I don’t think it is such a big change. I think he likes Lindelof. He’s built up a good relationship over the last year or two with Maguire.

"There are always question marks over him in the big games, they might miss the pace of Bailly, but I don’t think it’s such a big decision, I think Ole likes him.

"He likes him with Maguire, I think there’s a good understanding between them. So, I don’t think it’s such a big gamble to put him back in."

And that proved to be the case, with Lindelof helping the Red Devils keep a clean sheet in a 0-0 draw at Anfield.

Speaking after the game, Solskjaer admitted he was "disappointed" that United were unable to earn all three points.

The Norwegian told Sky Sports: "Yeah I've got to be honest I'm a bit disappointed at the moment. But still we played against a fantastic team and they had more of the possession.

"You want to go here and, with the injuries they have had lately, you think you can get a result but we didn't. A point might be okay if win the next one."
