Roy Keane left with egg on his face after mid-season prediction comes back to haunt him

Roy Keane's Manchester City prediction could not have been more wrong after he claimed in November that he "didn't see City winning the league this year".

Those on the blue half of Manchester were celebrating a third title in four years on Tuesday night after Manchester United's defeat to Leicester.

But earlier in the season, following a 1-1 draw with Liverpool at the Etihad, Keane made it clear he didn't expect them to challenge.

At that point Pep Guardiola's side were sitting in mid-table, albeit they had a game in hand and were just six points off the summit.

Keane took aim at their recruitment with their lack of a striker appearing to hinder their ambitions.

"I think it is going to be very difficult for City to win the league this year," he said on Sky Sports.

"There was no way they were going to keep doing what they've done for the last two or three years. Same for Liverpool.

"City, when you look at their squad, going into a season being expected to challenge for every competition they are in, only having two strikers.

"Aguero being 32 and having one or two problems and then just hanging your hat on one striker.

"They will have to be critical of themselves - why they didn't strengthen in the summer on a striker.

"I know there's other positions they wanted to fill. I suppose a centre-half was the priority. So they've got nobody but themselves to blame for being short of strikers.

"You have to have strength in depth, especially if you're expected to challenge for all the major trophies.

"So I don't see City winning the league this year."

Guardiola's side were going along in second year up until Christmas as they continued to drop points.

But after a stalemate with West Brom in December City switched a gear and won 19 of 22 league games whilst also claiming a fourth successive Carabao Cup.

The much craved Champions League could also be won this season with a final to come against Chelsea.
